Better living: Our city has a future!
Competition: Sustainable ELT municipalities of the year
Cities and municipalities can actively support the necessary transition from a "throwaway society" to a future-proof circular economy by acting sustainably. The use of secondary raw materials in municipal projects is of great importance here.
NEW LIFE is organising a municipal ELT sustainability competition to promote corresponding municipal initiatives. Under the motto BETTER LIVING - OUR CITY HAS A FUTURE we are looking for cities and municipalities throughout Germany (up to 40,000 inhabitants) that have already realised or are planning municipal projects with ELT recycling products. Participation in the competition is until 15 September 2022 via a Online form possible.
Sustainability pays off: 10,000 in prize money for the winning municipalities
The prize money for the two winning municipalities amounts to €10,000. The winner will receive €7,000 and the runner-up €3,000. The winning municipalities can use the prize money to implement sustainable urban development measures with ELT recycled products as part of their planned projects, which we will be happy to report on. The award ceremony will take place at the end of September at MISSION NOW in Cologne.
The winners include all participating cities and municipalities that pursue comprehensive, sustainable urban development within the scope of their economic possibilities in order to provide their inhabitants with a better life and to fulfil their global responsibility.
With the NEW LIFE participant logo The participating cities and municipalities can also draw attention to their sustainable commitment.
NEW LIFE jury: The best minds for the most sustainable ELT municipalities
In order to determine the deserving winning municipalities, we have put together a competent panel of experts from politics, the media, business and recycling networks. In addition to the district administrator of the Viersen district, we were able to recruit a representative of the NEW LIFE initiative, the network coordinator of the AZuR used tyre recycling innovation forum, the editor-in-chief of the trade journal der gemeinderat and the technical managing director of the German Rubber Industry Association for the jury. Â
The NEW LIFE jury will decide on the winners of the NEW LIFE ELT sustainability competition based on the project presentations submitted after the end of the participation period. We will inform all participating cities and municipalities of the results as soon as possible.
The award ceremony will take place at the end of September at MISSION NOW in Cologne, which can be followed via livestream.
ELT recycling material: versatile material for municipalities
The recyclate from ELT (end-of-life tyres) can be used flexibly within the framework of the circular economy thanks to its many positive properties. Recycled rubber can be used to manufacture many durable products that are ideal for realising sustainable municipal projects.
The range of applications extends from rubber-modified asphalt, sound insulation and building protection mats to fall protection floors for retirement homes and floor coverings for playgrounds and sports fields to outdoor lamps, edgings, sealants and impact sound insulation. You can find an overview of sustainable ELT recycling products for municipal use here here.
