Cover of NEW LIFE magazine, used tyre recycling, rubber recycling and circular economy

80 pages full of information and interesting topics about recycled products made from ELT

Willich, 27.08.2020 "Turning old into new" - the NEW LIFE initiative consistently follows this credo. It has set itself the task of utilising recycled material from ELT (end-of-life tyres) as a sustainable raw material for high-quality products. In the new NEW LIFE magazine, the initiative now uses 80 pages of the best recycled paper to show what is behind the idea, what areas of application there are for the materials from old tyres and what the political position is on the subject.
The magazine takes the reader on a journey through the circular economy. Firstly, there is a clear introduction to the basic idea of the circular economy. It also explains what usually happens to tyres that have reached the end of their useful life. An important topic is "urban mining", which is all about the fact that currently used objects are the raw materials of the future. This means that entire cities serve as "warehouses" for raw materials.

Examples and opinions from politics and business

Of course, the new NEW LIFE magazine also includes numerous examples of how raw materials from former tyres are already being used today. From fall protection mats on playgrounds to floor coverings and outdoor lamps to long-lasting running tracks for athletes, there are many things that you would never associate with tyres at first glance. The possibility of using ELT in conjunction with artificial turf is also examined in detail.
In between, representatives from the worlds of politics and business have had their say in interviews with the magazine's makers. For example, Evelin Lemke from Thinking Circular, Dr Marie-Luise Dött from the CDU/CSU and Dr Bettina Hoffmann from the Green Party. Stephan Rau, Technical Managing Director of the Wirtschaftsverband der Deutschen Kautschukindustrie e.V. (wdk), also answered questions from the editorial team.

Naked figures at a glance

The facts and figures on the subject of tyre recycling are also very interesting. The number of tyres produced each year and the amount of recycled material produced in Germany alone is shown clearly and very comprehensibly.
