Sustainably better for the green: Innovative learning portal for GaLaBau training

The responsible use of the environment and natural resources is becoming increasingly important in gardening, landscaping and sports ground construction. The NEW LIFE initiative has set up a GaLaBau teaching portal to convey the importance of environmental protection, sustainability and recycling (products) to GaLaBau students and trainees in a contemporary way: https://t1p.de/SCHULE.
The free "NEW LIFE goes to school" teaching programme comprises eight lessons with varied content that can be flexibly integrated into lessons and training. A free sample pack is offered to help pupils understand the content of the lessons. Pupils can be issued with a certificate for successful participation.

Eight lessons with varied teaching content

The innovative online learning programme for GaLaBau schools and training companies is
is divided into eight modular lessons of 90 minutes each. These can be flexibly integrated into lessons and training programmes by teachers and trainers. The topics range from environmental protection and sustainability, the circular economy and raw materials to the practical use of sustainable recycled products made from tyre rubber granulate in gardening, landscaping and sports ground construction.

Eight lessons with varied teaching content

To introduce the topic, a short film is offered in each lesson, which can be watched and discussed with the class. Suggestions and suitable materials for group work are provided in teamwork modules. For example, pupils can complete an environmental protection checklist, calculate their personal CO2-footprint or develop ideas for garden objects made from recycled materials.

Playful communication of sustainable landscaping knowledge

Varied learning games in each lesson enable an entertaining, playful approach to the subject matter. In the environmental taboo, pupils have to
and trainees can, for example, paraphrase and guess key terms relating to environmental protection. The learning games can be started directly online and played in class, but can also be printed out, played in groups or distributed as "homework".

Playful communication of sustainable landscaping knowledge

The offer also includes interactive modules in which students/trainees can intuitively try out and discover application and design options for sustainable recycled products made from tyre rubber granulate. Using the online colour mixer and online floor designer, for example, students can create individual designs for resilient floor coverings made from rubber granules for sports fields, leisure facilities and playgrounds. Photos of classroom projects can be posted on Instagram with the hashtag #newlifemachtschule.

All eight lessons are rounded off with a quiz to playfully review what has been learnt and to provide additional facts. There are four alternative answers to each question, at least one of which must be correct. The quiz can be played with the whole class in small groups or by each pupil individually. The correct solution should be discussed briefly afterwards. The quiz questions can be accessed directly online, but can also be printed out by the teacher/trainer.

Sample package to accompany lessons and certificates of participation

Schools, vocational colleges and training companies can request a sample pack free of charge and without obligation in order to better communicate the lesson content in class. The package contains material samples of shredded tyre rubber and coloured tyre rubber granules, sustainable landscaping products made of rubber granules and a sample box with samples and possible applications of sustainable rubber granule floor coverings for sport and play.

The interactive training programme is rounded off with personal certificates of participation. These certify that the pupils and trainees have successfully completed the eight lessons, help to motivate them and add value to their application portfolio. Teachers and trainers can also download the print template for the certificate of attendance free of charge from the NEW LIFE macht Schule teaching portal.
