Better sustainable living: NEW LIFE competition for municipalities

Cities and municipalities can actively support the necessary transition from a throwaway society to a circular economy. The use of products made from secondary raw materials such as ELT tyre recyclate is of great importance here. To promote corresponding initiatives, NEW LIFE is organising an ELT sustainability competition. Municipalities with up to 40,000 inhabitants that have already realised or are planning projects with ELT recycled productscan still secure 10,000 euros in prize money until 15 September 2022.

Sustainable material for the municipal future

Recycled rubber granulate (ELT) is an excellent material for municipal construction projects and infrastructure expansion. ELT material is robust, elastic, extremely weather-resistant and easy to work with. The rubber modification of asphalt, for example, improves the quality of the road surface, making it more resilient and durable. This means that roads need to be repaired or renewed less frequently.

ELT recycled tyres are ideal for the production of hard-wearing fall protection surfaces on playgrounds, sports facilities or in retirement homes, weather-resistant building protection mats, durable impact sound insulation, robust flower bed edgings, decorative outdoor lamps and much more. You can find an overview of ELT recycled products here here.

Sustainable contribution to improving the quality of life

By consistently using this pioneering secondary raw material, cities and local authorities can make an important, sustainable contribution to conserving resources, reducing CO2 emissions, avoiding waste and protecting the environment. To support municipalities in terms of climate protection and sustainability, NEW LIFE is organising an ELT sustainability competition. Under the motto BETTER LIFE - OUR CITY HAS A FUTURE, cities and municipalities (up to 40,000 inhabitants) are being sought that have already realised or are planning municipal projects with ELT recycling products. Participation is possible until 15 September 2022.

Municipal sustainability pays off: 10,000 in prize money

The prize money for the two winning municipalities amounts to €10,000. The winner will receive €7,000 and the runner-up €3,000 for the implementation of sustainable urban development measures using ELT recycled products. The award ceremony will take place at the end of September at MISSION NOW in Cologne.

The winners include all participants who pursue comprehensive, sustainable urban development within the scope of their economic possibilities in order to enable a better life for their inhabitants and to fulfil their global responsibility. Cities and municipalities can set an example in the sustainable use of increasingly scarce resources and raise environmental awareness among the population.

The municipal budget also benefits from the use of high-quality, durable products made from ELT recycled material. This is because they are usually cheaper to purchase than comparable products made from conventional materials, can be used for longer periods of time and also require less maintenance and care.
