NEW LIFE initiative takes part in eREC digital trade fair

Willich, 03.05.2021: Turning old into new: that is the motto of the NEW LIFE initiative. The association of nine companies that process recycled products from used tyres and rubber or use secondary raw materials for high-quality products is taking part in this year's eREC digital trade fair: the initiative aims to raise awareness of the goals and benefits of a functioning circular economy with a presentation and a digital trade fair stand.

Focus on sustainable action

eRec LogoThe digital trade fair eREC is a virtual platform for the recycling industry and will take place from 3 to 8 May 2021. For the second time, exhibitors can use digital exhibition stands, events, webinars and presentations to showcase their products and provide information on trends and news from the recycling, waste management and circular economy.

This year, Stephan Rau, Technical Managing Director of the German Rubber Industry Association (Wirtschaftsverband der deutschen Kautschukindustrie e.V.), will be speaking on behalf of the NEW LIFE initiative: In a 45-minute presentation, he will introduce the initiative and its commitment to the topics of recycling, sustainability and environmental protection. The NEW LIFE initiative will also have a digital stand for the entire duration of the trade fair and will be available to answer visitors' questions and provide information. "Thanks to the virtual format, we can also exchange insights and provide personalised advice on sustainable recycling in direct dialogue with trade visitors and interested parties during the coronavirus pandemic." says Anna-Maria Guth from the NEW LIFE initiative.

Municipalities as pioneers for the circular economy

The NEW LIFE initiative is committed to a functioning circular economy: The partners of NEW LIFE pursue the goal of processing recycled material from ELT (end-of-life tyres) into high-quality products and thus returning raw materials that have been extracted and used once back into the material cycle after their initial use. Ideally, the circular economy is a self-contained system in which as little material as possible is thrown away. The challenges of our time - climate change, the energy transition, digitalisation and e-mobility - require the sustainable use of raw materials and the promotion of recycling and raw material recovery if we are to maintain our accustomed standard of living. Every individual can actively promote sustainability through their actions, whether at home or at work.

Cities and municipalities in particular play a pioneering role here: The administrations are in direct contact with citizens and have the opportunity to inform them about the importance of recycling and set a good example. The NEW LIFE initiative has therefore launched a survey for local authorities to get a picture of how relevant secondary raw materials already are for cities and municipalities. Interested municipalities can still take part until 31 May 2021.

Take part now in the survey "Municipalities as pioneers of the circular society?" part.

About NEW LIFE:

NEW LIFE's partners are Conradi+Kaiser living industries, Estato Umweltservice, Genan, KRAIBURG Relastec, KURZ Karkassenhandel, Melos, MRH and REGUPOL BSW. In Germany alone, around 583,000 tonnes of used tyres are generated each year that need to be recycled. The resulting recycled products, in particular rubber granules and flour, are ideal for the resource-saving development of innovative products in a wide range of applications. These partner companies of the NEW LIFE campaign have set themselves the goal of promoting sustainable products made from ELT and sensitising people to conscious consumption.
