The deadline for participating in the nationwide sustainability competition for local authorities is just a few weeks away. Districts, cities and municipalities only have until 15 September 2022 to secure a grant of 10,000 euros for the implementation of sustainable urban development measures with high-quality recycled products made from rubber granulate and rubber powder: https://t1p.de/newlife-contest.
The deadline is not just for taking part in the competition, but also for the environment and the global climate. With new bad news about the effects of climate change emerging every day, the pressure to act and change course sustainably is also increasing for German municipalities. It is high time to initiate a corresponding transformation process and promote a forward-looking circular economy at municipal level.
An important impetus for the new start is the use of sustainable recycled products for urban development measures, which is supported by the NEW LIFE initiative with a nationwide sustainability competition.
By using climate-friendly products made from recycled tyres, every local authority can conserve resources, reduce CO2 emissions and avoid waste. In addition, the durable, weatherproof recycled products made from rubber granulate are usually cheaper to purchase and require less maintenance and care. Examples of applications for sustainable urban development measures include
- Road renovation with durable rubber-modified asphalt
- Equipping playgrounds, daycare centres and retirement homes with elastic fall protection flooring
- Equipping sports facilities with weatherproof, joint-friendly running tracks
- Protection of building roofs with photovoltaic systems and green roofs with weather-resistant building protection mats
- Sustainable emission protection with durable privacy and noise barriers and much more.

To take part in the sustainability competition, all you need to do is provide an informal brief description of a planned municipal project involving products made from sustainable recycled rubber. The project can be realised this year with the support of the NEW LIFE partners.
