Municipal Climate Dialogue Day on 22 April 2026: Shaping the urban future together

day of the climate dialogue

Today more than ever, cities, municipalities and districts are facing the challenge of implementing climate protection effectively, economically and in a way that is close to the people. This is why the NEW LIFE initiative is inviting people to the first municipal climate dialogue on 22 April 2026 - International Earth Day. The online forum offers decision-makers from local authorities the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts and specialist editors from KOMMUNALWIRTSCHAFT. Starting at 10:00 a.m., the 3 x 30-minute sessions will focus on successful solutions and concrete implementation options for making urban spaces liveable and climate-friendly. Participation is free of charge: https://t1p.de/klima-dialog

Climate protection starts locally - and in dialogue

City planners know: Climate protection starts on our own doorstep. The climate-resilient city of the future reduces COâ‚‚ emissions, avoids waste, contributes to species protection and the conservation of natural resources. At the same time, Section 45 of the German Recycling Management Act (KrWG) obliges public clients to prioritise the use of recycled products and particularly durable materials.

But how can urban spaces be designed to be liveable and climate-friendly? How can species be protected, surfaces unsealed, emissions reduced and waste avoided? The digital expert talk will focus on sustainable, climate-friendly solutions for the urban development of the future, in which the use of sustainable building materials and high-quality recycled products made from tyre rubber granulate is playing an increasingly important role.

3 x 30 minutes for the sustainable urban planning of the future

After a ten-minute opening plenary session, the central fields of action of sustainable urban development will be discussed in 30-minute sessions. Three online rooms will be offered in parallel for each topic. It is easy to switch between the rooms:

10:10 a.m.: Sustainable urban development

  • Building protection for roofs with greenery/PV systems
  • Impact sound insulation for roof terraces, timber construction, residential construction
  • Vibration isolation, elastic building support

10:40 a.m.: Playgrounds, sports facilities, green spaces

  • Fall protection flooring and decorative objects for barrier-free play areas
  • Playing field surfaces for outdoor sports facilities, artificial turf elastic layers
  • Green area paving with grass grid slabs including fall protection

11:10 a.m.: Transport and sustainable mobility

  • Traffic noise protection, barrier-free urban mobility
  • Construction and renovation of roads with recycled rubber asphalt
  • Traffic safety with drive-over ramps & Co.

The NEW LIFE initiative is contributing its expertise in the climate-friendly circular economy. The mechanical recycling of worn tyres helps to avoid waste, reduce CO2 emissions and conserve natural resources. What sounds like a niche topic turns out to be a concrete lever for municipal climate protection: what appears to be waste is turned into high-quality secondary raw materials and recycled products made from tyre rubber granulate for municipal construction and infrastructure projects.

High-quality recycled products for climate-friendly urban development

The use of products made from tyre rubber granulate in municipal urban development can make an important contribution to reactivating open spaces in residential areas and urban wasteland, reducing the sealing of outdoor areas and improving the urban climate - for example through open-pored impact protection surfaces for playgrounds, water-permeable paving or building protection layers for green roofs that retain rainwater and cool the air.

The products made from recycled rubber granulate are weather-resistant, non-slip, water-permeable, easy to lay and can be customised in terms of shape and colour. In addition to ecological benefits, solutions made from rubber granulate tyres also offer local authorities economic advantages: They are durable, low-maintenance and significantly reduce the cost of maintenance, care, replacement and servicing. Tyre rubber granulate is used to manufacture a variety of high-quality recycled products that are already being used in urban development projects and municipal renovation measures throughout Germany:

  • Elasticated safety surfaces for playgrounds
  • Joint-friendly running tracks for sports facilities
  • Robust elastic layers for artificial turf pitches
  • Non-slip, weatherproof flooring for outdoor sports surfaces
  • Building protection layers for roofs with greenery and photovoltaics
  • Elastic paving for paths, terraces and squares
  • Lawn grids and edging for green spaces
  • Durable rubberised asphalt for road construction and renovations
  • Kerb and drive-over ramps for traffic calming
  • Sound and impact sound insulation, vibration insulation and much more.
