This year, the international trade fair for open space, sports and exercise facilities focussed entirely on sustainability. The NEW LIFE stand in Hall 10.2, which was aimed primarily at future generations with an adventure trail and the NEW LIFE goes to school learning portal, met with a correspondingly positive response. Around 200 schoolchildren and trainees accepted the invitation to visit the NEW LIFE Climate School Day to find out in person about environmental protection, sustainability and climate-friendly recycling products.
With the support of Messeköln, which also focuses on sustainability, NEW LIFE presented the advantages and possibilities of recycling used tyres into climate-friendly recycling products on an area of over 70 square metres.
High-quality recycled products made from tyre rubber granulate are robust, durable, extremely weather-resistant, easy to work with and low-maintenance. Shapes, thicknesses and colours can be individually adapted to customer requirements, opening up new scope for the design of playgrounds, green spaces, sports fields, etc.
Discover and experience climate-friendly recycled products up close
Pupils, trainees and interested parties from local authorities, associations, companies and universities were able to discover the variety of high-quality recycled products made from tyre rubber granulate for playgrounds, sports facilities, stables, etc. at first hand on an adventure trail. 17 different floor tiles made from sustainable rubber granulate - from impact protection surfaces to artificial turf mats and interlocking paving - could be explored step by step and correctly categorised as part of a competition.
To sensitise future generations to the importance of environmental protection, climate protection, sustainability and recycling (products), NEW LIFE has set up a free learning portal for gardening and landscaping schools and training companies, which was presented live at FSB. Visitors of all generations were able to try out the varied content of the eight lessons at an information terminal.
Numerous pupils and trainees at the NEW LIFE Climate School Day
The highlight of the NEW Climate School Day on 26 October was a climate protection forum in the Europasaal of the Congress-Centrum Ost, which was attended by over 120 pupils and trainees. After a presentation of the NEW LIFE initiative and its partners, which focused on the ecological benefits of recycling used tyres, the renowned climate researcher Prof. Dr Peter Wiesen (Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental Wuppertal) gave a presentation on climate change that was suitable for pupils.
In his view, the climate has changed permanently over the past millennia. The often lamented extreme weather conditions also occurred centuries ago. For Prof. Wiesen, the question is what part humans play in the current climate change, what measures can contribute to improving the climate (for example, the recycling of used tyres) and why politicians are so hesitant to follow the recommendations of scientists.
The exhibitors at FSB 2023 also included NEW LIFE partners Conradi+Kaiser, Kraiburg Relastec, Melos and Regupol, who personally supported the Climate School Day, also drew a positive conclusion and were delighted with the keen interest shown by trade visitors from all over the world. Our partner MRH Mülsen was present at the NEW LIFE stand for two days with three specialists. And a delegation from our partner Estato Umweltservice travelled to take part in the Climate School Day.
