Upcycling - design objects made from granulate, used tyre recycling, rubber recycling and the circular economy

Sustainability as a self-image

For almost five decades, fall protection surfaces made of rubber granulate have been laid on play and utility areas. This example shows a successfully implemented recycling management system with a long tradition. The reason for this is simple: the properties of rubber are unique. As a material, it is pliable and flexible, permanently elastic, stretchable, water-repellent and can be moulded into any shape. In addition, it can be customised to meet all requirements such as wear resistance, durability, UV resistance or longevity as well as different shapes. Whether in medical technology, the food industry, kitchen appliances or the automotive industry - no other material can be used in so many different ways. Products made from natural rubber or synthetic rubber are used, for example, in baby dummies, latex mattresses and car tyres.Upcycling - design objects made from rubber granulate 1

In 2016, German companies processed 678,000 tonnes of rubber*, slightly less than half of which was natural rubber. As a rubber processing company, Conradi+Kaiser has been a pioneer in the creation of design-oriented products for private and public outdoor areas for more than 30 years, focussing entirely on the ecologically sound procurement of raw materials.

Perfect circular economy

As rubber retains its positive properties even during the recycling process, the company from Kleinmaischeid in Rhineland-Palatinate relies predominantly on the processing of granulates from end-of-life tyres (ELT) and therefore on the resource-saving use of materials and a sustainable production philosophy. Several thousand square metres of fall protection slabs, decking systems and boundary systems are produced every day at the site in the Westerwald. The manufacturer guarantees the consistently high quality of the original material by carefully selecting its suppliers. The product development team is constantly working on new shapes, which are implemented in the in-house tool and mould making department in order to provide customers with attractive products and fully exploit the positive properties of rubber granulate.

Products for all areas of daily life

In addition to fall protection and patio slabs, large-volume design elements are the trademark of Conradi+Kaiser. Vases and plant pots set accents in the company's own gardens as well as on city squares or in hotel entrance areas. The basic material here too: Rubber granulate. In the cold winter months, rubber granulate protects the root ball with its insulating effect and enables "stress-free" planting.Upcycling - design objects made from rubber granulate Overwintering. The porous material also adapts perfectly to the weather conditions. Frost damage such as the well-known chipping of varnish or cracks in terracotta vases are a thing of the past, as the Terrasoft® vases from Conradi+Kaiser "grow with you". A sustainable, resource-saving and attractive alternative to conventional vases. Conradi+Kaiser's aim is always to develop innovative products with high added social value. The products made from rubber granulate are also at the forefront when it comes to climate protection and sustainability. Conradi+Kaiser closes the economic cycle with every top recycled product and offers customers all over the world not only a large portfolio of standard products but also the expert and solution-orientated implementation of individual product ideas made from recycled material.

Perfect combination: stainless steel and rubber granulate

To turn the vases into real highlights, Conradi+ Kaiser uses stainless steel elements. Among other things, decorative rings and feet are produced in the in-house manufactory, which have a practical use in addition to the visual accentuation. The 25 cm high feet for the vases in the Linea range offer perfect protection against splashing water, for example in heavy rain, and make cleaning quick and easy. The smooth, cool stainless steel harmonises perfectly with the slightly rough, porous surface of the rubber granulate and forms a modern mix of materials, available in four attractive colour variants.

Innovation and expertise

Product development at Conradi+Kaiser always goes one step further and has established the Terrasoft® grass grid slab. These innovative slabs made of rubber granulate make fall protection "green" and the surface is not sealed. The slabs in 1×1 metre format consist of 144 chambers, so that even in high-traffic areas, for example under swings or behind

the designer paving can also be purchased with an EDPM top layer. In addition to creative play areas, this creates unusual surface designs in public spaces or on terraces and in private entrance areas.

One material, many possibilities

The areas of application for rubber as a recyclate are diverse. Combining this with Conradi+Kaiser's expertise, which has grown over 30 years, results in unique products that can be found in all areas of our daily lives. In recent years, the product developers at Conradi+Kaiser have established a large number of problem solvers for all aspects of the car: A kerb ramp, for example, which makes it possible to drive onto low and high kerbs without damaging the rims, or a bumper which, when mounted on the garage wall, prevents damage to doors. When driving onto the wheel stop, the driver is signalled the correct distance between the wall and the car - without damaging the bodywork or wheel rims. The versatile material also impresses around the house and garden with its high insulation, absorption and weather resistance
