The Alliance for the Future of Tyres (AZuR), of which NEW LIFE is a member, is currently STERN Special Edition „Sustainability as a Factor for the Future – Shaping Change, Seizing Opportunities“ features an editorial article. This special publication showcases companies, networks and projects that demonstrate how sustainable transformation can be achieved in practice. With the tyre circular economy, AZuR presents a clear example of how resource efficiency, economic competitiveness and innovation can successfully work together.
The circular economy as a competitive factor
Under the heading „A successful circular economy that drives sustainable change“, the article describes how the AZuR network has developed into a Europe-wide network of expertise since its foundation. Today, more than 90 partners from industry, small and medium-sized enterprises and academia are working together to keep tyres and their valuable raw materials in the circular economy for as long as possible – from repair and retreading right through to mechanical recycling. This creates efficient material cycles that reduce the use of primary raw materials, cut greenhouse gas emissions and support the supply of secondary raw materials.
A model of success that sets an example
This article places the tyre circular economy within the broader context of the circular economy. It shows that sustainable transformation succeeds where business, academia and politics work together to develop solutions. At the same time, it becomes clear that functioning circular systems not only contribute to climate protection and the conservation of resources, but also strengthen Europe’s innovative capacity and resilience as a business location.

At the same time, it confirms the NEW LIFE initiative’s approach of driving the transition towards a functioning tyre circular economy in collaboration with strong partners across the entire value chain.
