What happens to old tyres? In recent decades, most tyres have been incinerated in cement works. That has changed: Today, the majority of old tyres are recycled and reused in new products. In view of climate change and dwindling resources, this development is a step in the right direction.
During recycling, the valuable components of used tyres are returned to the material cycle. This strengthens the circular economy, as the tyre components are used for much longer and less waste is produced. The recycled products made from used tyres in turn have real added value for society, for example as flooring on playgrounds and sports fields, road asphalt, path edgings or sealants.
