At the KGSt®-FORUM 2023 in Hamburg, the NEW LIFE initiative will present how German municipalities can become pioneers of a more sustainable circular economy by using high-quality recycling products, make an important contribution to climate protection and save costs at the same time. Over 4,000 representatives of German cities and municipalities are expected to attend Germany's largest municipal conference in Hamburg in September 2023.
The quality of life and location is one of the greatest assets of German cities and municipalities. Citizens should enjoy living, working and spending their leisure time in their community. Sustainable environmental protection should protect the basis of life in the long term and maintain this diversity. Climate protection and climate impact adaptation are key environmental aspects of existential importance beyond the local community. Local authorities play a central role in achieving the sustainability goals of the 2030 Agenda. Without their contribution, these goals cannot be achieved.
Cities and local authorities can actively support climate protection and the transition to a circular economy. By using sustainable recycled products made from tyre rubber granulate, resources can be conserved, CO2 emissions saved and waste avoided. As the durable, weatherproof recycled products made from rubber powder and rubber granulate also require less maintenance and care, their use also pays off for the city's coffers.
Recycled rubber granulate and rubber powder from tyres are ideal materials for municipal construction projects and infrastructure development. The products made from the recycled material are robust, elastic, extremely weather-resistant and easy to process. The rubber modification of asphalt, for example, improves the quality of the road surface, making it more resilient and durable. This means that roads need to be renovated or renewed less frequently. There are many possible applications in urban development:
- Equipping playgrounds, daycare centres or retirement homes with elastic fall protection flooring
- Attractive enhancement of public spaces and green areas with customisable flooring, paths, edging, decorative objects, etc.
- Equipping sports facilities with weatherproof, joint-friendly running tracks
- Protection of building roofs with photovoltaic systems and green roofs with weather-resistant building protection mats
- Road rehabilitation with durable rubber-modified asphalt
- Sustainable emission protection with durable privacy and noise barriers and much more.
