With new bad news about the effects of climate change emerging every day, the pressure to act and change course sustainably is also increasing for German municipalities. It is high time to initiate a corresponding transformation process and promote a forward-looking circular economy at municipal level.
The deadline has also passed for participation in the NEW LIFE sustainability competition for local authorities. Districts, cities and municipalities only have until 15 September 2022 to secure a grant of 10,000 euros for the implementation of sustainable urban development measures with high-quality recycled products made from rubber granulate and rubber powder: https://t1p.de/newlife-contest.
In order to determine the deserving winning municipalities, we have put together a competent panel of experts from politics, the media, business and recycling networks. In addition to the district administrator of the Viersen district, we were able to recruit a representative of the NEW LIFE initiative, the network coordinator of the AZuR used tyre recycling innovation forum, the editor-in-chief of the trade journal der gemeinderat and the technical managing director of the German Rubber Industry Association for the jury.
