In response to climate change, it is now more important than ever to avoid waste, use products for as long as possible and efficiently keep raw materials in the recycling loop at the end of their life cycle. The NEW LIFE initiative has produced a series of clear, easy-to-understand short films to show how this is already working successfully today. 10 facts about climate-friendly used tyre recycling - from the ecological benefits to high-quality recycled products made from used tyre rubber granulate: https://t1p.de/new-life-10-fakten
Around 44.35 million used tyres (approx. 525,000 tonnes) for all types of vehicles were generated in Germany in 2022. More than 42 per cent of used tyres were sent for climate-friendly recycling in 2022. Material recycling of used tyres avoids around 225,000 tonnes of waste every year in Germany alone, helps to conserve natural resources, keeps valuable raw materials in circulation, reduces dependence on raw material imports, supports the SME-based recycling industry and saves more than 150,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The substances/materials contained in used tyres are separated and processed into high-quality secondary raw materials. Textile fibres (approx. 10 percent of the tyre volume) have excellent insulating properties compared to rock or mineral wool. Steel wire from used tyres (approx. 15 percent) is suitable for remelting in steelworks. The granulated rubber from used tyres (approx. 75 percent) is a valuable secondary raw material for the manufacture of high-quality products for a wide range of applications, which are impressively demonstrated in the NEW LIFE short films six to ten.
