What is it about?

In recycling, waste and used products are collected, sorted, processed into high-quality raw materials and used to manufacture new recycled products. This keeps valuable raw materials in the economic cycle. This avoids waste, conserves natural resources and contributes to environmental protection. Recycling and high-quality, sustainable recycling products are also becoming increasingly important in the roofing trade.

Educational film: Recycling in the roofing trade

We have prepared a short film to introduce the topic and raise pupils' awareness of the importance of recycling in the roofing trade. This can be followed by a short discussion with the class on the importance of recycling and recycled products in the roofing trade.

Recycling excursion: Certified used tyre disposal

The indispensable basis for the sustainable recycling of tyres is their professional disposal by certified specialist companies. These sort used tyres properly according to quality and then send them for the best possible sustainable recovery (retreading or recycling). The recycling of tyres is a step towards a circular economy: valuable raw materials are used for as long as possible and less waste is produced.

In a short explanatory film, we show how used tyre disposal works, what certified waste management companies pay attention to when sorting and disposing of used tyres and why certified waste management companies are important for the sustainable recycling of tyres.

Teamwork: making objects for roof terraces and balconies yourself from recycled materials

Lesson 3: Recycling 2

The current trend is to make new objects for balconies and roof terraces yourself from used items and recycled materials. When things are given a second life, resources are conserved because the materials do not have to be manufactured again.

Whether it's seating areas made from old pallets, tables made from discarded barrels or shelves made from old wine crates. There are numerous other ways to decorate balconies and roof terraces with objects made from recycled materials. Discarded or used products from the roofing trade, such as guttering, are also suitable for this purpose
made of metal, which are ideal as flower pots. There are no limits to their own imagination. In small groups or as a class, the pupils collect ideas for balcony and patio objects made from recycled materials.

Educational game: Recycling crossword puzzle

After the pupils have familiarised themselves with the topic of recycling, the knowledge they have acquired so far can be deepened and expanded in a fun way. For this purpose, we have prepared a crossword puzzle (with the kind support of the Remondis recycling experts).

  • We have prepared the description of the search terms on a separate sheet.
  • The letters in the circled squares make up the solution word at the end.
  • The crossword puzzle can be solved in class or in working groups. It is also possible to use the puzzle as homework.

Learning quiz: 5 questions on climate-friendly recycling

In a quiz, pupils can once again engage with the topic of recycling in a fun way. There are four alternative answers to each question, at least one of which must be correct. The quiz can be played with the whole class in small groups or by each pupil individually. The correct solution should be discussed briefly afterwards.

Click on the graphic to display the resolution in which the correct answer(s) is/are highlighted. Click again to display the next question. Note: The quiz questions can of course also be printed out.
