An important positive effect of a sustainable circular economy is the reduction of climate-damaging CO2 emissions. In Germany, each person produces an average of 12.5 tonnes of CO2 per year. If we want to protect the environment and climate for future generations, CO2 emissions should be reduced to 2 tonnes per person per year.
To make pupils aware of how many CO2 emissions they cause every day, both privately and professionally, we ask them (individually, in small groups or as a class) to calculate their personal CO2 footprint. There is also a practical online CO2 calculator from the Federal Environment Agency: https://uba.co2-rechner.de/de_DE/
A quick CO2 check can be carried out here and a personal CO2 balance drawn up. Optionally, you can then consider (individually, in small groups or as a class) how you can improve your personal and professional carbon footprint: https://uba.co2-rechner.de/de_DE/sc-living-hs#panel-scenario
